The goal of this chapter is to identify international best practices in the organisation of social security.

The report starts with a broad scan of social security systems in Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom, focusing on benefit regulations, the organisations involved and the application processes.

The broad scan covers social assistance, housing benefits, family benefits, healthcare and fiscal policies aimed at low-income households. Based on this broad scan, the study continues with the analysis of six specific case studies which could be inspiring policies for other countries.
